The league springs from the North Staffs & District Cricket League is the second oldest in the UK. At the end of 2005 the decision was taken to keep the League’s name going by starting a mid-week 8-a-side 15 overs per side competition, thus the Phoenix 15 Competition was formed. The Competition is named after thelate Chairman, Ken Lightfoot, who, along with League Secretary Roger Machin, devised and developed the original idea of the Phoenix 15 Competition. The league’s aim is to raise money for charitable organisations and also to put money back into cricket in the form of prize money. So far in excess of £11,000 has been given to charity.
